I have to admit something. I am a true beauty junkie – always up for trying the next greatest trend in skincare. But, as my skin sensitivity has become heightened like never before, I've become ruthless with what I put on my skin. I pore over ingredient lists, accost sales people, and scan product bar codes using the ThinkDirty app (highly recommended by the way). But then it hit me. Why am I constantly struggling to try to find a product that works, compromising on ingredients or scents, when I can make my own? After doing some research, considering the skin's needs, and knowing what ingredients trigger flare-ups for sensitive skin (coconut oil is a no-no), I created an easy DIY Essential Oil serum, using pure, food-based ingredients, that really does wonders for smoothness, evenness, and texture. Ready for better skin?
Before you tune out because you read "oil," let me put your mind to rest. Essential oils offer a slew of benefits – from anti-inflammation, antioxidants, and aiding in better absorption for your current regimen. Plus, you're only using a few drops of this serum at night, before bed. It's is virtually non-greasy and leaves skin glowing. On a personal note, it's helped with my face's blotchiness like nothing ever has before. Go ahead, give it a try.
A few drops is all you need. |

Benefits:
As I mentioned, this serum has a slew of benefits. So, let's take a look at what each ingredient does for you:
Avocado Oil: Derived from avocados, this oil penetrates skin and contains fatty acids. It's used to help prevent moisture evaporation. |
Evening Primrose Oil: This amazing oil is often used as a supplement, but when applied topically, it's used for reducing acne. It also helps to balance skin sebum (your own naturally-produced oil). |
Vitamin E: Vitamin E serves as a great addition to oils as it helps bind the formula. It's also used as a moisturizer and for its antioxidant properties. |
Almond Oil: Derived from pressed almonds, this oil has a high fatty acid concentration so it's great for reducing skin inflammation. |
Sunflower Seed Oil: Made from pressed sunflower seeds, Sunflower Oil is a great base moisturizer and antioxidant since it contains high levels of vitamins A, D and E. |
Rose Essential Oil Made from Rose petals, this sweet-smelling oil is used not only for its fragrance properties, but for it's cell-renewing power. |
